Tour Update 1

Im pretty sure these past 4 days have been the most interesting of my life! On Friday I played a fantastic show in Dutton Ontario. I was asked to be a guest soloist for the Treble Makers Choir, which was an honour! The minute the show was done I was in my Honda Fit and off on tour! We had a 24 hour drive to Kenora to play a show Saturday Night. Thankfully for the 1 hour time difference I made it right on time. Show in Kenora went amazing! We had a HUGE crowd come out and rock out! They were awesome! Saturday we hit the road to Winnipeg where I had a TV interview with Shaw's program Backstage....

Interview with CFCO!!

Music and Farming

Those who say that musician have it easy are mistaken.  We work hard, my dad and I often compare music to farming.  You work long hours at a profession that no one seems to really notice.  Maybe its not a great comparison, my father feeds thousands of people and animals a year and I only fill rooms with sound, noise.  But there are similarities, we both feel that in the end of the day we've really accomplished nothing because sometimes it takes weeks or months for our labour to bear fruit.  We both feel like no one cares, its not everyday some actually thanks a farmer. Music and farming...

Thanks to my dad…

This is an interesting industry, music.  It's an industry where you have to work harder then people imagine with very little thanks.  This is an industry where you have to love what you do, love it so much that you may work for years and years without an income, without knowing whether or not its going to work. Or if it does work and people dig your music, your style, your brand and you do get to do what you love everyday it makes it easier to be thankful for it.     I LOVE music, music is my whole life, its whats on my mind 24/7.  It is why I drive across this country, fly to Europe, or tour...

Things that change you…

My first job when I was 14 (other then working on my dads farm) was working with a woman who had Alzheimer's Disease.  She was in her late 60's and was in a nursing home near my house on a waiting list for one that had a unit for people with Alzheimer's.  Her name was Kay and she was incredibly smart.  Before this disease took over her mind she was the head nurse at a hospital in Toronto.  The longer I spent time with her the more I saw inside of her and that she was frustrated. Sometimes she knew something was wrong but she just didn't know what.  She had a beautiful spirit and it hurt...

Skype Songwriting

Today I did my first Skype songwriting session, it was the coolest thing.  I got to spend a few hours with a songwriting friend in Nashville online writing a song.  Before I started I thought I wouldn't like it, wouldn't like not being in the same room as the person I'm writing with, but I surprisingly loved it.  I love the idea that I can sit in my living room and write with an amazing songwriter 1000 kilometers away. I just love how technology makes the world a smaller place.  Allows people in Tokyo and Sydney to hear our music and read our words.  I think its so cool that I could travel...

Dogs and Happiness

I spend most of my days booking shows, meeting people, making friendships and writing.  Many of these things, thanks to the internet, I can do in the comfort of my own home.  I can get up (usually around 7am now that I have a puppy) make myself a green tea, skip for 15 minutes do a little bit of stretching and Im online.  For the most part I'm busy, but there is something about being alone at home for hours on end that leaves you a little lonely no matter how much you have to do. Last year I had to give up my bull dog/bull mastiff mix Rome because we didn't feel like it was fair for a 110lb...

Thoughts and Reality…

Have you ever thought about how your thoughts effect things?   Maybe it's God, maybe its Quantum Physics but I think its so neat.  To have something on your mind, maybe you need to make an extra $200 to pay your rent and someone calls you out of the blue and offers you that exact amount to play a show. Maybe you're thinking "Man, I would love pizza for dinner tonight, Im really craving it" and you get home and its on the table.  Anytime these instances happen to me I take a moment to thank God, the universe, whoever will listen for it.  As you might be able to see by now Im really into the power...

What is Destiny?

I've always known I was different, I've never felt the same, maybe just a little left out.  Is it my love for offside humour or my own jokes that make no sense?  Has it been my quest for something more, something Im not sure even exists?  Or something that sprung out of the day so long ago on my 12th birthday when I was walking through my dads air- strip at the farm and found 2 four leaf clovers and thought WOW, does this happen to everyone?  Life is so interesting and I can't help it but to question it everyday.  I wonder why certain people enter your life, why some leave?  Why you fall...

The Weekend

I had an amazing weekend at the Corral in Kitchener.  There is always such a warm welcome for us there and it was so great to see some of the extras from last Saturdays music video shoot come out to support us. I love this industry sometimes so much because simple actions can in cases bring about long time friends.  I have had many strangers become my friends over the past few weeks, with the release of Sunflower.  People have shared my story with their friends, shared their stories with me and I truly believe that in talking about it we all forgive (if we haven't already) and begin to move...
