The Power of No

I choose to do music about 4 years ago, in reality it kind of choose me. Trust me if I was as passionate about anything else it would be so much easier to just give up on music and choose another path. But music is my love my life line. For so long I didn't think it was an option. I was always a powerful singer and because of that my mom would tell me to out side if I wanted to sing and my sisters told me not to sit near them in church if I was going to. When I was 19 I auditioned for Canadian Idol. When I made it to the third round the judges literally laughed the entire time I sang. I left...

Here in LA.

Made it to one of USA's artsy city's, LA. I LOVE this place, not only are the people I've encountered so far super nice, but the sun is shining, the ocean is calling and this place is so full of culture. The artists on Venice Beach are amazing, the food is so tasty (especially the organic nachos and guacamole) and this city has a calm relaxed vibe to it, it's easy to see why people from all over the world flock here. Its really been a creative inspiration being on the beach, sometimes being stuck in a city going through the same motions day after day (musical or not) it gets hard to find your...

Im very thankful for this opportunity and can't wait to see their show again!!! Doc Walker, some christmas tunes and a amazing night at Cowboys! Who could ask for more:)

New Things!

There are many new and exciting things happening for me this week!!! Nov 14-18 is anti-bullying week and I am so excited to have partnered with the Waterloo District Police to bring my anti-bullying talks to elementary and highschools in the Waterloo Region! Many kids have come forward at these schools to share their stories with me and I hope that learning from my story and the stories from those in their classes will help everyone know that they are not alone and that someone is there to always talk to them if they need someone to listen. These kids are changing my life as well with...

Made it to Calgary!!

We finally made it to Calgary yesterday! I definately LOVE this town! Not sue I can handle it in the winter but for these gorgeous sunny days it is one place in Canada that is seriously happening! We decided to get a hotel room yesterday and I slept 16 hours, I think thats a testament to how much sleep I was actually lacking! It felt great this morning to wake up and feel truly refreshed! We stopped into a hospital before heading to Calgary to get my throat looked at. It had been aching for a few weeks now and a friend of mine who is a neurosurgeon told me that it can lead to Cardiac Arrest...

Tour Update 1

Im pretty sure these past 4 days have been the most interesting of my life! On Friday I played a fantastic show in Dutton Ontario. I was asked to be a guest soloist for the Treble Makers Choir, which was an honour! The minute the show was done I was in my Honda Fit and off on tour! We had a 24 hour drive to Kenora to play a show Saturday Night. Thankfully for the 1 hour time difference I made it right on time. Show in Kenora went amazing! We had a HUGE crowd come out and rock out! They were awesome! Saturday we hit the road to Winnipeg where I had a TV interview with Shaw's program Backstage....

Music and Farming

Those who say that musician have it easy are mistaken.  We work hard, my dad and I often compare music to farming.  You work long hours at a profession that no one seems to really notice.  Maybe its not a great comparison, my father feeds thousands of people and animals a year and I only fill rooms with sound, noise.  But there are similarities, we both feel that in the end of the day we've really accomplished nothing because sometimes it takes weeks or months for our labour to bear fruit.  We both feel like no one cares, its not everyday some actually thanks a farmer. Music and farming...

Thanks to my dad…

This is an interesting industry, music.  It's an industry where you have to work harder then people imagine with very little thanks.  This is an industry where you have to love what you do, love it so much that you may work for years and years without an income, without knowing whether or not its going to work. Or if it does work and people dig your music, your style, your brand and you do get to do what you love everyday it makes it easier to be thankful for it.     I LOVE music, music is my whole life, its whats on my mind 24/7.  It is why I drive across this country, fly to Europe, or tour...

Things that change you…

My first job when I was 14 (other then working on my dads farm) was working with a woman who had Alzheimer's Disease.  She was in her late 60's and was in a nursing home near my house on a waiting list for one that had a unit for people with Alzheimer's.  Her name was Kay and she was incredibly smart.  Before this disease took over her mind she was the head nurse at a hospital in Toronto.  The longer I spent time with her the more I saw inside of her and that she was frustrated. Sometimes she knew something was wrong but she just didn't know what.  She had a beautiful spirit and it hurt...
