The Power of No

I choose to do music about 4 years ago, in reality it kind of choose me. Trust me if I was as passionate about anything else it would be so much easier to just give up on music and choose another path. But music is my love my life line. For so long I didn’t think it was an option. I was always a powerful singer and because of that my mom would tell me to out side if I wanted to sing and my sisters told me not to sit near them in church if I was going to. When I was 19 I auditioned for Canadian Idol. When I made it to the third round the judges literally laughed the entire time I sang. I left with a smile on my face only to break down in tears in the parking lot… I didn’t sing for 3 years. All I ever loved doing was singing, so one day I woke up and said screw it. That is probably the worst thing that anyone can do to me (laugh while I sing) so anything else people through my way will never hurt as bad or affect me as much as that. So I started to sing again, I started a band, hired all my musicians, started taking singing lessons, practicing my guitar more, writing again. I started booking gigs, then festivals and fairs then tours. I went to Nashville and recorded an album and I saw many of my dreams come true because I wouldn’t let a NO hold me down anymore.
Lots of people have fears, fear of rejection, humiliation, failure. These fears keep us from touching the sky.

In music the most common answer is no, I’ve heard it my whole life. Its about staying true to yourself and doing what you love. That’s what shines though. One day you just might get a yes but in the mean time those magical moments are what its all about.

Cheers to the people who take a chance. I know I won’t stop.
